Good Buy, Easy Read and Informational

While looking for wig making books I read the two reviews and I am thinking that those reviewers didn't actually read this book. This book offers some of the same information the other wig making book I ordered for $50.00 offers. This book is written by a woman that makes her own wigs and hair pieces and offers good photos and instructions. I am not sure that I will use all of the techniques described in this book but if you are looking to make wigs with wefts of hair this is a good offering at a very low cost.

I am Ashamed to share an Industry with this Author.

I have never before seen such unprofessional wig work and poor editing as makes up "Wig Making Made Simple" by Mrs. Shon Stoker.

The wigmaking techniques present within have very little application for any serious wigmaking student, and even those techniques are described with such poor grammar as to give the impression that the author has never seen higher than an eighth-grade education in language arts. A segue into chatspeak would not seem out of place amongst the variety of misused tenses, "They're"'s, and overuse of exclamative phrasing.

The continued publishing of this book is a testament to the fact that ANYONE can call themselves a professional, by conforming to the basic definition of the word. Though one must ask, knowing that a "professional" is simply one who makes money on their work, whether it ought to count if that "professional work" would only ever be paid for by mistake.

good overview of 30 years work on fundamental theology

This is the latest is a series of six books by Fr. O'Collins, an Aussie Jesuit, explicitly dealing with the sub-discipline of fundamental theology . It is an excellent summary of the main themes of all his earlier work on Fundamental Theology while also adding some newer themes, such as the engagement with neo-atheism.

FYI Fundamental theology is a field that deals with the sources of theology: the scriptures, tradition, and magisterium and their credibility as a foundation for theology. It is found mainly in Catholic theological circles, but has become important in non-Catholic circles as well more recently. Fundamental theology's apologetic function has morphed into a concern as well for the human subject as receiver of revelation, the role and significant of history, and ultimately the nature and factors that lead to faith.

O'Collins has been reflecting on these issues for over 30 years, returning to some central ideas that concern him: the centrality of Christ, the nature of history in faith, and the experiencing subject who comes to faith. Each of his various writings on this field return to these ideas but tend to deepen each time around. His thought is heavily influence by Karl Rahner's transcendental Thomism, as well as the ecumenism of Jacques Dupris S.J. among others.

O'Collins purpose in writing this book is to keep fundamental theology alive while "developing further" his insights into his earlier themes while also adding some new reflection. This book, like all the others he wrote on this topic, does not try to create a comprehensive system, though the ideas interconnect at times.

O'Collins is well versed in the field (a recognized expert) and well versed as well in a wide variety of topics and authors in various western languages. His thought process is clear and his explanations help delineate the various perspectives involved in a given issue well. Even if you do not agree with his perspective, you will walk away with a clear understanding and broader perspective of the issue than before.

I recommend this book for the specialist and anyone with a thorough training in theology. It can be rather dense and technical, though necessarily so. He has other less technical books should you be interested, though none on fundamental theology that I am aware.

I found the price prohibitive and look forward to a cheaper paperback should I decide to use this as a text for students.

A first-rate overview of fundamental theology

In this wide ranging volume O'Collins seeks to lay out a program for relaunching fundamental theology. He certainly is qualified for the task given that this is his fourth book on the topic. Over thirteen chapters O'Collins covers a wide range of issues including introducing fundamental theology (chapter 1), God (chapter 2), anthropology (chapter 3), revelation (chapter 4), Jesus (chapters 5 and 6), faith (chapter 7), tradition (chapter 8), the Bible (chapters 9 and 10), the church (chapter 11), Christ and other religions (chapter 12) and theological style and method (chapter 13).

Given the wide ranging nature of the book it is inevitable that O'Collins will be somewhat selective in his treatment of topics. Even so, an author of a book like this is bound to be charged with oversights. On that score I'll lodge my complaint that O'Collins only dedicated a page to discuss metaphor and the nature of religious language (335-6). Given the enormous attention this topic has received in contemporary theology, this seems a significant gap.

Wide-ranging books of this sort also provide fertile soil for reviewer quibbles. On that score I shall avail myself of the privilege of lodging a few of my own. To begin with, I note my dissatisfaction with O'Collins' endorsement of reduplicative predication in Christology without even acknowledging the serious concerns that such formulations are quasi-Nestorian.

Other quibbles are directed at suggestive points that remain underdeveloped. To note one example, while O'Collins unapologetically affirms biblical authority and inspiration, he senses no need to exonerate the problematic moral perspectives present in scripture, be they in the imprecatory psalms (220) or Israel's holy wars (242). While I agree with this general approach to these texts, O'Collins leaves the reader wishing he would explain more fully the role he sees these texts playing in an inspired canon.

O'Collins leaves the reader wishing for more clarity in other areas as well, and some of them are significant. For example, while O'Collins affirms the post-resurrection appearances, he qualifies that "This is not to suggest that when the risen Jesus appeared he was an exterior object to be perceived and recognized by anyone who happened to be present, irrespective of their personal dispositions." (151) A layperson may be forgiven for worrying that this is theological doubletalk for a denial of the resurrection. Consequently, O'Collins should explain more fully what he means here.

This leads to another concern. O'Collins frequently refers to the role fundamental theology plays in providing justification for various theological claims (for example, see 97). However, this leaves him vulnerable to the subordinationist charge that he has made theology subject to an external source of justification. To take one example, O'Collins lists five criteria for determining the authentic sayings and actions of Jesus. (100) He seems to view these criteria as a necessary grid to determine which gospel passages Christians can reasonably accept as historical (102). However, not only is the veracity of some of these criteria questionable (the criterion of discontinuity, in particular), the deeper issue concerns why a Christian cannot accept the gospels in their entirety as historical absent defeaters to that historicity.

My final quibble focuses on chapter 13 where O'Collins describes three approaches to theology as science, ethics (or social justice) and worship. While O'Collins argues rightly that we need all three styles, he then suggests that these three styles correspond to correspondence, pragmatic and coherence theories of truth. This is a case of over-stylizing your argument. Theories of truth are totalitarian in that each admits to no rivals. If a statement is true because it corresponds to reality (as is surely the case) then it is not true because it has pragmatic value or coherence.

As I said these are quibbles and whatever the weaknesses of "Rethinking Fundamental Theology", they are far outweighed by the strengths. O'Collins' discussions of topics like revelation, inspiration, ecclesiology and Christology are nuanced and, in the best reflection of a post-Vatican 2 world, generously ecumenical. (Indeed, the final word in the final chapter comes courtesy of Martin Luther.) This is an enjoyable and challenging book and it deserves a wide readership.

So, overall this is a really good product. I was a little skeptical at first, especially since this looks pretty new, but have been very pleased overall. I read its review on The Girl's Guide to law school, and decided what they hay, let's give 'er a whorl. Turns out, it's everything they say: everything you need to ace the New York bar exam, fast.

I bought this book on a whim, hoping that the claims it made would actually come to fruition. Much to my surprise, they did! I'm planning on taking the New York Bar Examination myself very soon, and after reading this book, I don't know if it's possible to feel more prepared. This book is very in-depth, highlighting every little detail you need to know prior to the examination, and it's all written in an effective, easy to understand and digest kind of way. Could not ask for a better guide heading into a big moment in my life, one I now expect to come out of with flying colors. 5 stars, highly recommended book.

Rich Erixon has been a teacher of young writers for over a decade, and a practitioner of prose and poetry for quite a bit longer. His career as a Humanities teacher has also given him a strong understanding of the rise and fall of various types of governments, and a fascination with how dictators and totalitarian governments can come to control large groups of seemingly rational people. His stories tend to explore how people react under immense psychological pressure and emotional strain (see, his psychology degree was actually useful). About the Author

Francisco M. Gonzalez-Longatt is currently a Lecturer in Electrical Power System at Electrical Power System en School of Electronic, Electrical and Systems Engineering en Loughborough University, United Kingdom. His academic qualifications include first Class Electrical Engineering of Instituto Universitario Polit�cnico de la Fuerza Armada Nacional, Venezuela (1994), Master of Business Administration (Honors) of Universidad Bicentenaria de Aragua, Venezuela (1999), Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education Professional Practice of Coventry University, UK (2013) and PhD in Electrical Power Engineering from the Universidad Central de Venezuela (2008). He is former associate professor (1995-2009) and Head (1999-2001) of the Department of Electrical Engineering of Universidad Nacional Polit�cnico de la Fuerza Armada Nacional, Venezuela (1995-2009).

He is a former academic staff of Department of Aerospace, Electrical and Electronic Engineering at University of Coventry, UK, where he started as Lecturer in Electrical Engineering in 2012 and promoted to Senior Lecturer in Electrical Engineering in 2013. He was formerly with the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, The University of Manchester, UK, as Postdoctoral Research Associate (2009-2011).

He is Vice-President of Venezuelan Wind Energy Association, Senior Member of the IEEE, member of The Institution of Engineering and Technology - The IET (UK) and member of International Council on Large Electric Systems -CIGRE. His research interest includes innovative (operation/control) schemes to optimize the performance of future energy systems.

Jos� Luis Rueda Torres was born on March 26th, 1980 in Ecuador. In August 2004, he received the Electrical Engineer diploma from Escuela Polit�cnica Nacional, Quito, Ecuador, with cum laude honors. From September 2003 till February 2005, he worked in Ecuador, in the fields of industrial control systems and electrical distribution networks operation and planning. In November 2009, he received the Ph.D. degree from the National University of San Juan, obtaining the highest mark Sobresaliente (Outstanding). He has been with the Institute of Electrical Engineering at University Duisburg-Essen as postdoctoral research associate since August 2009. Dr. Rueda will join the staff of the Department of Electrical Sustainable Energy at Delft University of Technology as Assistant Professor of Intelligent Electrical Power Grids from March 2014.

He is member of Colegio de Ingenieros El�ctricos y Electr�nicos de Pichincha (CIEEPI), Ecuador, and senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE). His current research interests include smart grids, power system modeling, power system planning, power system stability and control, system identification, probabilistic and artificial intelligent methods, and renewable energy technologies.

Cult book

Please note that the previous review is by someone complaining about the seller, not about the book...

Ok, so: this book is (or was, 15 years ago) extremely famous here in France. It is a load of happiness, smartness, nice...ness! You will see the magical story of 2 gifted children who happen to meet each other by chance. The dialogues are funny and clever, the setting is the good old Paris of the 70s, characters all have a great taste of French bread, wine and cheese.

A movie was made a long time ago, something like "Je t'aime, I love you".

READ IT, it was almost life-changing for me. I read it at least 10 times, and I still do when I feel down or surrounded by the stupid ;)

The book is more of an author's exposition of what he knows rather than an effort on his part to convey information clearly. The author used a lot of symbols in the book's models that are not even briefly explained at all. Or the explanation does not match.

The review below ("Lacking enough depth and details") was written by a disgruntled student of mine soon after he finished my course, presumably because he was dissatisfied with his grade. Take it for what you will. My view is that Persson and Tabellini's book is nicely complementary with mine (it covers different things and has a different focus). I use both in teaching, as well as a number of other books.
