About the Author

Timothy J. Rupert

Timothy J. Rupert is a Professor and the Golemme Administrative Chair at the D’Amore-McKim School of Business at Northeastern University. He received his B.S. in Accounting and his Master of Taxation from the University of Akron. He also earned his Ph.D. from Penn State University. Professor Rupert’s research has been published in such journals as The Accounting Review, The Journal of the American Taxation Association, Behavioral Research in Accounting, Advances in Taxation, Applied Cognitive Psychology, Advances in Accounting Education, and Journal of Accounting Education.

He currently is the co-editor of Advances in Accounting Education. In 2010, he received the Outstanding Educator Award from the Massachusetts Society of CPAs. He also has received the University’s Excellence in Teaching Award and the D’Amore-McKim School’s Best Teacher of the Year award multiple times. He is active in the American Accounting Association and the American Taxation Association (ATA) and has served as president, vice president, and secretary of the ATA.

Thomas R. Pope

Thomas R. Pope is the Ernst & Young Professor of Accounting at the University of Kentucky. He received a B.S. from the University of Louisville and an M.S. and D.B.A. in business administration from the University of Kentucky. He teaches international taxation, partnership and S corporation taxation, tax research and policy, and introductory taxation and has won outstanding teaching awards at the University, College, and School of Accountancy levels. He has published articles in The Accounting Review, the Tax Adviser, Taxes, Tax Notes, and a number of other journals. Professor Pope’s extensive professional experience includes eight years with Big Four accounting firms. Five of those years were with Ernst & Whinney (now part of Ernst & Young), including two years with their National Tax Department in Washington, D.C. He subsequently held the position of Senior Manager in charge of the Tax Department in Lexington, Kentucky. Professor Pope also has been a leader and speaker at professional tax conferences all over the United States and is active as a tax consultant.

Kenneth E. Anderson

Kenneth E. Anderson is the Pugh CPAs Professor of Accounting at the University of Tennessee. He earned a B.B.A. from the University of Wisconsin—Milwaukee and subsequently attained the level of tax manager with Arthur Young (now part of Ernst & Young). He then earned a Ph.D. from Indiana University. He teaches corporate taxation, partnership taxation, and tax strategy. Professor Anderson also is the Director of the Master of Accountancy Program. He has published articles in The Accounting Review, The Journal of the American Taxation Association, Advances in Taxation, the Journal of Accountancy, the Journal of Financial Service Professionals, and a number of other journals.

If you're interested in tax accounting, choose another book.

The books is incredibly dense and not helpful. I had to use it for my course so there were no other options.

Outside of the the few example problems for filling out some forms and some corporations, it is all text. This wouldn't be bad, but the concepts and example are not always explained well. Many times in the examples they assume you know where all the numbers come from, but forget to explain how or where those numbers came from.

Finally, the online resources with the access code were not helpful, because there were not a lot. This may have to do with the instructor, but outside of a power point and some practice test you could do that is all that is offered.

Overall if you have a photogenic memory and can understand all of this material right away then this book is for you. Otherwise hope your professor uses a different book.

Fantastic quick read!

This book is a handful of vampire inspired stories from Ireland. As I find both topics entrancing, I had to have this book! And it did not disappoint. Sure, the tales are simple, and the book is an easy read. But I know I will be shivering under the covers tonight, thinking about those scary stories! Don’t pass this book by if either topic interests you.

It's one thing to continuously read about the English form of the vampire, but other countries have their own adaptations of the mythical monster too, and it's always fun to read about other monsters.

Lucy Prebble lives in London. Her smash-hit play, Enron, transferred to the West End and Broadway in 2010 after sell out runs at both the Royal Court and Chichester Festival Theatre. In addition to the huge critical acclaim it has received, Enron also won the award for best New Play at the prestigious TMA Theatre Awards, and was shortlisted for the Evening Standard Award 2009. It hurts

It's always great to see the hidden sides of people that you may condemn. It's important to try to help people instead of condemning them as evil or blaming them for all their issues... but it's hard when children are involved. How much leeway do you give? Dani is destructive but if she wasn't she wouldn't be the little light in people's lives.
I like the fact that this play doesn't follow any conventional plot lines. Every thing that happened was unexpected.

Theresa Carrington was inspired to create When Cows Eat Flowers to help teach her children responsibility for their actions. Jennifer loved the chicka-pooka, chicka-pooka sound of Farmer Brown’s tractor and Joshua always laughed at the word Petunia. The characters came to life years later when Theresa’s mother Beth, an accomplished sculptor, illustrated the story. The important lesson of responsibility was clearly heard by Joshua and Jennifer who went on to honorably serve in the United States Navy. The material on new technologies has been reorganized abd updated so that pigment mixtures are now explored before light mixtures.

Color is addressed to artists and art students in all media, in both fine and applied arts. It provides an informative but non-dogmatic introduction to the many different approaches to understanding color, including aesthetics, science, psychology, and history. Illustrations for the chapters on color concepts are taken from all media. Special aesthetic and practical considerations for color usage in each medium—such as ways that graphic designers use and specify printers' inks—are also explored. The realities of color use are accentuated by direct quotes from working artists. Technical terms are carefully defined in the text and also in a glossary. This fourth edition of Color reflects the tremendous range of color choices in the studio and the marketplace. Illustrations of points under discussion reflect the great variety in color applications, including historic and contemporary paintings, sculpture, installation pieces, crafts, photographs, advertisements, cartoons, commercial design, computer art, video, architecture, landscape design, interior design, and clothing. The work of women and multicultural art are naturally interwoven throughout the text.

For this edition, new visual demonstrations have been added, such as the effects of different lighting sources, reflective qualities of different surfaces, the Bezold Effect, and the phenomenon of color constancy. There is new material on the emotional and physiological effects of different hues, and on the spatial effects of colors. Cutting-edge virtual reality and video installations are illustrated and discussed. Website design and current printing technologies are included in updated discussions of computer-based art. Technical sections have been modified for greater clarity and ease of understanding. Technical material is provided in ways that can form take-off points for artists' own explorations of the intriguing world of color.

A special characteristic of this book is its extensive use of artists' own words about their use of color. More such quotations have been incorporated into this edition, and a new feature has been added: artists' quotations introducing each chapter.

Another special new feature of this edition is an appendix of Studio Color Problems. These comprise a great treasury of practical experiments with color based on the experiential teaching methods of the great colorist Josef Albers. Those using his experiential method might like to assign the first two chapters of the text to develop a general orientation and a basic vocabulary before launching into studio work, and then continue with the more theoretical and practical material introduced later in the book once students have made some discoveries on their own. Mystery of Color Solved For Me!

This book was required text for a color theory class I took recently. For years I've been looking for information on color but could not find anything beyond the basics, usually associated with painting/art books. This book is all- encompassing: information about various color theories, perceptions of color, color and light, color in printing and more. It is full of examples, pictures, graphs, charts. I came away with the information that I knew must be out there! I would recommend this book to any color student. Mine is dog-eared!

Brilliant book on Color Theory!

This book is a must read for anyone studying the visual arts.

This is a brilliant book. He is a brilliant artist. I studied under Paul Zelanski at the University of Connecticut, School of Fine Art. He used to have a lot of fun with us during class critiques. A favorite saying of his was "You know, there is no such thing as an ugly color. But THIS... THIS comes pretty close (pointing to something hanging on the studio wall)!" Then he'd launch into a wondeful dissertation on the theory and practice of color. I learned a great deal from him. You will too from his book.

too useful to sell

I always re-sell all my textbooks on amazon. This was my most expensive textbook and I was really looking forward to getting some of my money back at the end of the semester. Surprisingly though, I've decided to hold on to it throughout my time at art school. It's usefulness is worth far more than $60.
