No se porque Ty es Polic�a en est� novela si no hace nada de su trabajo( m�s bien era un estorbo para los del FBI) le quedaba mejor el papel de chapero...tiene sus partes buenas no lo negar�, pero al final cansa las peleas infantiles de los mafiosos como si fueran unos ni�os.
Un final muy bueno eso si me gusto!

Amateur quality with grammatical and technical errors, and very poor explanations of concepts

An extremely amateur piece of writing. Problems include numerous grammatical errors, technical errors (such as describing the NULL value as a data type, and several coding errors), mentioning terms or concepts that have not yet been explained (such as primary keys, dropping tables) or in some cases are never explained (such as STORAGE clauses), and formatting code examples so that they are barely legible. The author has a large series of similarly titled books on many different topics, all with large numbers of suspiciously generic 5 star reviews which push them to the top of search results.

An amateur effort at best. I get the sense that the author started ...

This book is...well, disappointing to be honest. Grammatical errors and typos abound for one thing. For another thing, the sample syntax uses elements from previous topics in ways that were never covered or explained. This is especially true in later chapters. There are no exercises and no projects that tie multiple concepts together. In short, it's poorly written and incomplete. An amateur effort at best.

I get the sense that the author started out with a nice vision, put together an ambitious outline, and then got overwhelmed and burned out writing the first draft. So he just submitted the first draft to the publisher. And the publisher didn't even run it by a copy editor. Heck, it may even be self-published. Anyway, if you couldn't already tell, my advice is don't waste your money with this one.

( For what it's worth, I also bought a copy of Head First SQL at the same time. The contrast is night and day, boys and girls. Head First is much more money, but I don't feel stupid for buying that one.)

Save your money!

Yeah so I'm really feeling embarrassed and a bit angry about this purchase. The positive reviews here are fake and I didn't take the time to look closely at them before wasting my money on this "book". This is a self-published pamphlet (print-on-demand) that isn't much more than the first week's class notes from a SQL101 class. Don't believe the positive reviews, spend your money on a book with some depth, and my lesson is to look more closely at the timing and structure of positive reviews in the future. Amazon needs to up their game with fake reviews, I got caught on this one.

About the Author
L. Thomas Winfree, Jr., received his Ph.D. degree (sociology) from the University of Montana in 1976. Besides his current position as Professor of Criminal Justice at New Mexico State University, he has held academic appointments at the University of New Mexico, East Texas State University (now Texas A and M University, Commerce), and Louisiana State University. Winfree has authored or co-authored over 70 refereed journal articles, 20-plus book chapters, and numerous reports. He is co-author, with Howard Abadinsky, of UNDERSTANDING CRIME, Second Edition (Wadsworth, 2003). Included among Winfree's research interests are youth gangs, police socialization, and contemporary justice system responses to drug and alcohol problems.

Howard Abadinsky is professor of criminal justice at St John's University. He served eight years as an inspector for the Cook County, Illinois, sheriff and 15 years as a New York state parole officer and senior parole officer. The founder of the International Association for the Study of Organized Crime, he also served as a consultant to the President's Commission on Organized Crime. He holds a B.A. from Queens College of the City University of New York, an M.S.W. from Fordham University, and a Ph.D. in sociology from New York University.

Great for Renting!!

I am in Grad School for Criminal Justice and I just found this a much better way rather than to buy a book from my school bookstore. Even if I thought about buying from the bookstore I wouldn't get much back when class is over, so Amazon is helping me get great grades and save money!! Postmodernist Logic

One of the most interesting thing about deviant logic is its widespread dismissal by the academic community despite the widespread application of fuzzy logic to home appliances and engineering devices and other aspects. Susan Haack has addressed the lacunae admirably in this wonderful book and she deserves every kudos for it. It is pitched at a not-too-technical level and should appeal to all layman and also the academics.

This is the best response to fuzzy logic?

Wow, what a disappointment this book is! First, it is quite pricey considering it is simply a collection of Haack's papers that have been published in various journals; one would expect better editing and perhaps even a glossary but this simply copies the papers verbatim.
For those who are beginners in formal logic or who have been out of the field for a while you will likely have problems beginning in the first chapter. Who remembers the definition of "wff"?
No, Haack should have completely rewritten the papers to make the ideas and arguments approachable for all readers of this book or at least she should have included something like "intended for the graduate level philosophy student" to make her intention clear. The book needs expansion of ideas beginning with some basics as well as some "niceties" such as a glossary of acronyms and some good editing.
That said, the basic premise of the book is rather a sad statement on the present level of thinking inside formal logic. Haack quite plainly states "I do not beleve truth comes in degrees"...Indeed. From a scientific/mathematical/engineering background, I find that quite a loaded statement and indicative of a completely closed pre-postmodernist mind.
Considering the work done in mathematics, computing and science since Godel by people like Turing, Chaitin and Prigogine showing the inconsistencies that may be found at the core of formal Aristotelian-based logic and its derivatives perhaps Haack should leave her foxhole. Yes, there is no reason to keep defending formal logic's shortcomings has long since disappeared along with Newton's view of the universe.
In the end, I would highly recommend anyone thinking about purchasing this book to consider the validity of "truth does not come in degrees" and then go and buy "Fuzzy Set Theory" and Perlovsky's latest.

I liked the book...really powerful for people who are just becoming aware of self inquiry.� Because I did years of work with "other popular techniques"... I couldn't help comparing as a technique--only it's better, faster and less messy. I love how it is simple, and cuts through quickly. Brilliant! ~Louise F.

Really, I did "want" to write a review.

I read the book. Fully. I was proud how quickly I was getting through it, how interested I was in each dialog Scott had with each person. Some of the people I could relate to 100% , while others, not entirely.

I wanted to be sure I understood everything, so I went back and re-read certain parts. But then something happened while my eyes were passing over letters. I saw that I made finishing reading the book and intellectually understanding all the content the "finish line" in my book reading rat-race. I made "wanting" to gain new "spiritual knowledge" the intention.

This making of life activity into perpetual episodes of satisfying "desires" happens quite often when reading other materials, doing personal or work projects, and even in my relationships with some people. Have I ever even seen them .. at all ? All those wants that I already demand from my day before it even starts?

It's a very subtle difference doing something very deliberately, having something to gain from it (whether you know it or not) or going into it fully connected to each moment, free from the desire of an outcome. In both cases, the same outcome can occur. How we are in each step within each moment, while we do what we do determines if we suffer or not.

Nope. I diddn't "gain" any spiritual knowledge. Sorry. I know your probably looking for that.

What is clearly seen in reading this book was my addiction to looking for freedom in the future, my desires to be free of the past and how I resist the infinity of freedom in this present moment.

The last book on spirituality you'll ever need!

As the title implies, this book leads to "total" liberation! I'm finally free! Woohoo! No more reading "I Am That" for the 100th time.

Unfortunately, it seems as though this will be the last book from Scott since you can't get more total than total. Oh well...

What a life changer! As a former (thanks to Scott) spiritual seeker, I was concluding that wanting was the root of all suffering so I practiced not wanting. But through Scott's insight into what he calls "inverted wants" I was able to recognize that by thinking that I had stopped all wanting, I still wanted to maintain this feeling of peace, in other words I didn't want anything to disturb my comfy (but not sustainable) experience of what I called peace. I also saw that wanting is fine, it's natural, it's how life expresses itself in many ways. The suffering comes from attachment to the outcome of getting what is wanted. I highly recommend this book to anyone, regardless of any religious/spiritual/non-spiritual paths you may identify with. It's a quick read and packed with practical, actionable applications that work!
